It is easy to lose focus and drift in a conversation with someone unless one is paying attention to or interested in what is being said by the speaker. We must all have at some point heard the phrase “Talk less and listen more” .This is probably easier said than done for many of us .Life is very hectic and fast paced and it seems like everyone wants to communicate whatever is on their mind quickly and move on . In a typical conversation, these days the listener’s thoughts are on “what to say rather than hear what is being said” . If one knew the benefits of active listening, they would probably be a little more patient 🙂 It is in fact a compliment to be a great listener .Active listening is a sign of great leadership as well .It shows the person is respectful to the speaker which in turns builds trust and great relationships! It is also said If one can be a little intuitive and listen to a conversation carefully, many non verbal and things unsaid can be interpreted which may even help solve problems, for instance in a workplace or any other situation .This could even land one in great opportunities ! Here are a few quotes on listening to inspire the better listener in us.
“Wisdom is the reward you get for a lifetime of listening when you’d have preferred to talk.” – Doug.
“We have two ears and one tongue so that we would listen more and talk less.” –Diogene
“You learn when you listen. You earn when you listen not just money, but respect.” -Harvey Mackay
