Crab Masala Curry is a favorite of many seafood lovers. Crab supplies key vitamins and minerals that support good health and can occasionally be part of your diet. The flavor crab induces in a gravy is simply out of this world. Only one who has had this delicious seafood can vouch for it! My recipe here uses the blue crab, but we can also use other varieties of big (Alaskan) or small crabs for the preparation.

Why you will love this recipe?

    • Crab is delicious in any form, and the flavor that it exudes in this curry makes it taste great.
    • The leftover curry tastes even better as all the spices infuse in the crab meat and shell.
    • You can have this with any entree like rotis and it pairs well with rice and rice dishes.
    • This is a no-fail recipe, and you can guarantee that you will get a tasty dish.

Ingredients you need to make the crab masala

    • Soft-shell crabs or blue crabs are preferable, but you can use any variety.
    • Ginger and Garlic paste - Make a fresh paste with a 1:1 ratio for fresh flavors.
    • Onions red ones, preferably cut length-wise.
    • Spices like turmeric, red chili powder, coriander powder, garam masala, black pepper.
    • Tomatoes chopped finely.
    • Green chilies and curry leaves.

How to make crab masala curry?

Cleaning crabs is cumbersome, and I usually prefer to clean them at the fish market, even if it means spending a few extra bucks. If cleaning crabs is something that you are okay with, then even better, you can do it after you bring them home. Once you have the cleaned crabs, cooking is a very simple process.

The cooking process involves sauteeing the long thinly sliced onions, green chilies, and ginger-garlic paste. Once they are cooked and soft and ooze out the oil add the spices mentioned in the recipe turmeric, red chili powder, coriander powder, black pepper, and fresh homemade garam masala at the very end. Add tomatoes and keep cooking until it is well incorporated. Add the cleaned crabs and a cup of hot water and cook it with a lid on. Keep stirring from time to time. It will be well-cooked in 45 minutes. Garnish with curry leaves and chopped coriander leaves.

What dishes to serve with Crab curry?

Crab curry goes best with white rice and can also go well with any of the south Indian breakfasts like Palappam made with Palappam recipe, Puttu, Pathiri, or roti. The flavors are so tempting that you may end up overeating. If there are leftovers, the curry tastes even better the next day as the masala absorbs well into the crab.

This Crab Masala Curry recipe was out of this world! The crab added so much flavor to the gravy, making it an exceptional seafood dish. I used blue crab, but I’m tempted to try it with Alaskan crab next time!
