Charlotte also called 'Queen city' gets it's name after King George III 's wife Queen Charlotte Sophia. It is one of the biggest cities of North Carolina and one of the fastest growing in the US .It is a cool place to visit with many museums, lively streets, parks, shopping and dining. We stayed in the uptown area.It has nice streets and places to walk around ,with lot of fun sight seeing and awesome restaurants to enjoy! We loved visiting here and have compiled some of the must see places especially if travelling with kids .
NASCAR Hall of Fame: If you are a race car fan ,NASCAR enthusiast or not this place is worth a visit to experience the history and heritage of NASCAR .They have many displays of interactive exhibits, historic race cars and other artifacts. The high Octane theater has a 64 feet wide projection screen for special events. There are many other exhibits and a simulator for enthusiastic folks to experience the race first hand.
Carolinas aviation museum : This aviation museum is located in the vicinity of the Charlotte Douglas International airport .One of the main attractions is the "Mircale on the Hudson" , Airbus A320 in the US Airways Flight 1549 which took off from NY's LaGuardia airport and landed on the Hudson due to birds striking it during take off .The escape of all the passengers was really miraculous. There is even a movie "Sully" which is based on this true story. Other than that, the museum has many civil, commercial ,military aircrafts, helipcopters ,memorabilia and collection of artifacts from the legacy airlines. They also have a flight simulator for those who would like to experience it .A great place to spend an afternoon with kids and adults alike.
Discovery place science : This science and technology museum is famously known for its exciting interactive shows, educational movies, stimulating exhibitions, IMAX theatre and lot of fun activities for kids and adults alike.
The uptown also has many awesome places to dine and many are at walking distance with shady trees and it was a wonderful experience.
Freedom Park : A large , lush green and beautiful park with a big lake, trees and bridges which sprawls about 7 acres .There are many trails to walk and play areas for kids. The beautiful scenery makes it a wonderful photography spot as well. It has many recreational fields for all sports . The walking paths are linked to the longer sugar creek green way. A great place to relax in the nature after all the walking and museum visits .
There are many more places to visit in Charlotte like the Imaginon known for the library and children's theatre experiences, Carowinds amusement park for awesome rides, Billy graham library for a tour and visit and so on . Since ours was a short trip we had only enough time to explore the places listed but it was indeed a wonderful well spent time .

Seems to be a wonderful place to visit with children. Aviation museum seems to be a very interesting place, it would be thrilling to experience the flight simulation, and to have a look at all those flights, esp. Flight 1549, at close quarters.
I think a visit to freedom park will soothe the eyes and brighten one's mood. Hope you all had a great time there.
I enjoyed reading this post with beautiful photos, thank you so much.

It was really a fun trip and the whole family loved it . Yes it was nice to see the airplane at close quarters. We were also lucky that there was a passenger from the flight who came and spoke about his experience on that day .He normally comes once a month and coincidentally it was the day we visited. My kids especially enjoyed the flight simulator.Freedom park was also nice and surprisingly it was not crowded at all even though it was during Easter holidays. Thank you for the lovely comments and support , appreciate it !

Oh wow, what an awesome list! I read about Charlotte sometimes in my books, especially ones by Kathy Reichs as one of her characters lives/works there. NASCAR must be an amazing visit, and a 64ft wide screen is impressive! Freedom Park looks absolutely beautiful. It’s great there’s so much to discover, along with plenty of ‘hands on’ stuff, and that it’s balanced nicely by something so peaceful and outdoorsy so you get the best of both worlds.xx

That's wonderful to know Caz , I haven't read her books and it sure seems like something I would be interested to check out. Yes we loved NASCAR and it was really nice to see the retired cars and all the memorabilia. They even had some fun stations where they could simulate a pit stop for changing tires quickly . Yes sure enough the park was a welcome change after all the museums, gadgets and indoor experiences.
