Sydney is without doubt one of the most spectacular of cities, and with the stunning Blue Mountains and the endless white sandy beaches, you have a photographer’s dream location. Add to that the iconic Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge, and you have the perfect backdrop for a helicopter tour. Tourists and professional photographers regularly book these tours, which from a tourist’s point of view, is the best way to see the Sydney region, and the professional photographer has an aircraft and pilot who will put them where they want to be for the very best images.
Helicopter Tour Providers
You wouldn’t be the first person to charter a helicopter for some aerial photography in Sydney, and you certainly won’t be the last. A typical helicopter ride over Sydney would last around 90 minutes, which is more than enough time to secure some amazing shots, and with a pilot who is used to taking the best lines for their client’s camera, you will shoot some amazing stills and video.
Fantastic Backdrops
The pilot is happy to take you a low-level pass along Bondi Beach, or get that perfect angle for the Sydney Opera House, and the beauty of booking the trip is you get to tell the pilot what you are looking for and he can put you in the right position for the very best shots. The Blue Mountains are awesome enough, but when viewed from the air, the blue hazed peaks are breathtakingly beautiful, and your tour will include many passes through this magical region, giving you the best photo opportunities.
Specialised Photographic Equipment
The helicopter tour operator would have several aircraft that are specifically geared up for aerial photography, which would include:
- Doors Removed For Optimum Use of Hand-Held Equipment
- Nose Mounted Options
- Helicopter With Optimum Stability - For High Resolution Stills
- Noise Reduction For Video Projects
Range Of Applications
Aerial photography over Sydney could be for a publication, or perhaps a construction project, while there are those who simply want the best images for their portfolio, and whatever your goals, hiring a professional pilot and a helicopter that is kitted out for what you have in mind will ensure success. The professional photographers all use such a tour operator, which is industry-specific and offers the best angles and with equipment support and door-less aircraft, the scene is set for some great photography. Whether your goals are professional or personal, the best images of Sydney and surrounding areas can be found on board a charted helicopter that is designed for aerial photography.
Make An Early Booking
As you would expect, these types of helicopter tours are extremely popular, so an early booking is advised if you want to be certain of your dates. Once you have Googled helicopter tours of Sydney, check out the tour operator’s website, which will have all the information you need, and with a secure online payment, you can book your tour and begin the preparations for what will surely be the trip of a lifetime.

Great post, Nisha! I've never been on a helicopter tour for the purpose of sightseeing, much less for a photo shoot. But I'm certainly wondering why I haven't now. Could be because Lynn isn't particularly fond of heights. Seeing that bullet point about "doors removed" gave me a chuckle because I can only imagine Lynn's reaction to that. She'd probably hand me the camera and tell me to go at it, assuming I could get her aboard in the first place. 😉

Thank you for the comments Justin.Pretty sure the helicopter tours would give some spectacular views . I did experience a tour once at the Grand Canyon in Vegas but I'm not so thrilled of heights either . So I can very well understand Lynn's situation 🙂 . However it sure is an adventurous photographers delight to shoot from such heights with opened doors and get some awesome aerial shots.
