Homemade Fajitas are easy to make and can be fixed quickly for lunch or dinner. They are very tasty just out of the skillet and with all the side dishes that go along with them.
If you plan to make fajitas, plan and stock up on soft tortillas, colorful bell peppers, onions, and chicken. The sides and fillings for the fajitas can be anything of your choice. I normally use ripe avocadoes, shredded cheese, salsa, Spanish rice, or beans. It was a fun time making the fajitas with my kids. They had to make a video for their Spanish class cooking a Mexican dish. Fajitas are one of their favorites and we enjoyed making them together.

Why you'll love this ?
- A great lunch or dinner option if you have all the ingredients handy
- They taste good and are very easy to make
- Add various fillings of your choice to suit your palette
How to make the easy homemade Fajitas?
Use a cast-iron skillet if available to saute the marinated chicken. It gives a nice taste when cooked in it. Once done they can be drained out into a bowl lined with a paper towel. Add vegetables like bell peppers and onions to the remaining oil and saute. Cook on high heat till they caramelize and get a nice char. Add the chicken back in and squeeze some lime into it. Keep all the side dishes to go with the fajita ready beforehand, so you can serve it and have it when it comes out sizzling.
Seasoning and spices used
The unique blend of spices makes this dish taste exceptional. I used chili powder, cumin powder, garlic powder, paprika, oregano, salt, and pepper. If you love your fajita spicy, you can increase the spices as per your liking. They also have ready-made Taco seasoning in the grocery stores. So if you prefer to use that, it makes the job even easier. Since I had the Taco seasoning handy, I added a little of that as well along with the other spices. Alternatively, you can just use the spices mentioned if you do not have store-bought seasoning. Mix well so the spices are coated well on the chicken. Marinate it for about half an hour in the refrigerator.
Side dishes for the Homemade Fajitas
One of the popular side dishes that goes with the Fajitas is Spanish rice. It is very simple to make. I use Basmati or long-grain white rice. Sautee some chopped onions, and chopped garlic, in a little oil. Add the rice and saute well. To it add tomato sauce or salsa or a cup of tomatoes and sautee well. Next, add double the amount of chicken broth or vegetable broth. Cook till done and garnish with chopped green onions. You can check the recipe for the salsa and black beans here. The other sides that can be used for fajitas are avocadoes, sour cream, shredded cheese, and corn.
