- Onion - large - Pressure cook
- Bay leaves - enhance flavor and aroma
- Black peppercorns - to give spice to the soup use as tolerated
- Sugar
- Salt
- Bread slices cut into small squares
- Butter
- Corn flour slurry - Maida or corn flour mixed in a little water
How to make the Tomato Onion Soup?
It is also very healthy and quite simple to make. We need to cook the tomatoes and onions thoroughly so we can mash and strain well. Later add cornflour and water mixture to thicken the soup and adjust the consistency. Add peppercorns as desired depending on your spice toleration. The croutons fried in butter added to the soup are usually loved by kids. It adds a special taste to the soup. There is no added color or spices in this soup except for the pepper and bay leaves.

Tomato Onion Soup
Ingredients
- 6-7 tomatoes large ripe
- 1 large onion
- 2 bay leaves
- 2 tbsp peppercorns black
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 8 slices bread cut into small squares
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1-2 tbsp cornflour or maida mixed in little water
Instructions
- Pressure cook the tomatoes, onions, and bay leaf with salt.
- Once cooled, remove the bay leaves and grind to a fine and smooth paste.
- Strain the ground paste into a pan using a strainer.
- Add water to the strained tomato onion paste to adjust consistency.
- Add sugar and adjust salt as desired.
- Add powdered black pepper and let it simmer for a while.
- You can optionally add the cornflour or maida mixed in a little water for a thicker consistency.
- In a small pan, heat butter and shallow fry the bread squares until brown and keep aside.
- Add it to the soup just before serving.
- You can also add a little fresh cream if you like.
- Serve and enjoy the yummy soup!

Thank you so much Megala, it is a recipe that I got from my mother and tastes similar to the restaurant style .Although I saw some versions online that used carrots and garlic along with the tomatoes ,that would be another variety I guess!
